Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 10, 2026

1. Introduction

At ScanBox, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy will inform you as to how we look after your personal data when you visit our website or use the ScanBox QR & Barcode scanner mobile application and tell you about your privacy rights and how the law protects you.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties, nor do we display advertisements within the app.

2. Data We Collect

We collect and process different kinds of data depending on how you use our application. To ensure full transparency and compliance with App Store policies, the categories of data we collect include:

  • Contact Info: Includes your name, email address, and phone number. This is collected when you create an account, register, or contact our support team.
  • Financial Info (Payment Info): If you purchase a premium subscription or complete in-app transactions, payment-related details are securely handled and processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store billing systems.
  • Location Data (Precise Location): With your explicit consent, we access and record your device's precise location (GPS coordinates) specifically to log where barcodes or QR codes are scanned.
  • Identifiers (User ID & Device ID): We collect user-level identifiers (such as account ID or customer numbers) and device-level identifiers (such as advertising identifiers or device IDs) to manage subscription status, log scan metrics, and personalize coordinates reporting.
  • Usage Data (Product Interaction): Includes information on how you interact with the app, such as app launches, screen taps, clicks, scrolling information, and feature utilization.
  • Diagnostics (Crash & Performance Data): Includes crash logs (Crashlytics diagnostic data), stack traces, and app performance metrics (such as launch times, hang rates, and energy use) to help us troubleshoot and optimize stability.
  • Camera Data: ScanBox requires access to your device's camera to scan and decode barcodes and QR codes. Camera frames are processed locally in real-time on your device; no raw video or image feeds are stored or sent to our servers.

3. App Analytics & Crash Reporting

To improve the ScanBox experience and ensure stability, we collect telemetry and diagnostic data:

  • Product Analytics (PostHog): We use PostHog to understand user behavior, product interaction, and feature usage. This helps us refine and improve the scanning features.
  • Crash Reporting (Crashlytics): We use Crashlytics to automatically collect crash logs and diagnostic info if the app encounters an error. This diagnostic data helps our engineering team quickly identify and resolve bugs.

4. Push Notifications

ScanBox does not currently collect device tokens or send push notifications. If this feature is introduced in the future, it will be strictly opt-in, and you will be able to manage notification permissions at any time through your device settings.

5. Third-Party Services

ScanBox integrates with various third-party services to provide a rich experience. These include:

  • PostHog & Crashlytics: For app analytics, performance monitoring, and crash reporting as detailed above.
  • App Store / Play Store: For handling app distributions, payments (Financial & Payment Info), subscriptions, and basic analytics.

6. How We Use Your Data

We will only use your personal data when the law allows us to, primarily to provide and improve the ScanBox service, manage your account, process premium subscriptions, ensure app stability, and communicate with you regarding support requests.

7. Your Data Rights

Under certain circumstances, you have rights under data protection laws in relation to your personal data, including the right to request access, correction, erasure, restriction, transfer, to object to processing, to portability of data and to withdraw consent.

If you wish to exercise any of the rights set out above, please contact us at [email protected].
